Ngā Mahi | The Opportunity
Join Acon Industries as our next General Manager and lead a high-performing team delivering quality outcomes across the Bay of Plenty. We’re looking for a dynamic leader who can balance strategic direction with operational excellence and drive business growth in the construction and infrastructure sector. As General Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and driving the overall success of Acon Industries. You will work closely with the Managing Director, lead cross-functional teams, and ensure our projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality. This is a key leadership role where you'll shape the strategic direction of the business while embedding a strong, values-based culture focused on safety, people development, and performance.

Leadership & Strategy
Lead and implement strategic plans to drive business growth and profitability
Set clear goals and performance targets aligned with company vision
Lead team meetings, ensure alignment, and maintain a strong, inclusive company culture
Operations & Project Delivery
Oversee project execution to ensure quality, timeliness, and budget control
Continuously improve workflows and decision-making processes
Ensure compliance with client specifications and industry standards
Financial Management
Manage budgets, monitor costs, and ensure financial targets are met
Approve expenditures and implement cost control strategies
Drive profitability through pricing, forecasting, and margin improvement
People & Safety
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure WHS compliance
Lead people development, training, and performance initiatives
Oversee resourcing and staff retention across office and field teams
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Build long-term relationships with councils, developers, contractors, and suppliers
Lead the bidding, proposal, and negotiation processes
Ensure client satisfaction across all projects
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure legal, environmental, and industry compliance
Identify and manage risks to protect and future-proof the business
Innovation & Systems
Drive continuous improvement and adopt new technologies
Oversee business systems, reporting tools, and process upgrades
Report to the Managing Director on key performance metrics
Ōu Pūkenga | About You
A strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to leadership
Proven experience in managing operations, budgets, and teams in construction, infrastructure, or related industries
Skilled in project delivery, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement
Strong communicator who can lead, motivate, and represent the company at all levels
Passionate about building a safe, skilled, and engaged workforce
Experience in senior leadership roles, preferably in construction or infrastructure
Proven ability to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to quality standards
Strong commercial acumen
Certifications in project management, risk, or safety (PMP, Prince2, WHS etc.) are a plus
